  • I am new here and I am sure this question has been asked a million-time but here goes...

I have generic, no name Chinese, fixtures that are not listed among the Generic or Varied listings. Is there a tool where I can create my own fixture and assign the channels to it. For example, a PAR LED with 8 channels 1-Dimmer, 2-Red, 3-Green, 4-Blue, 5-Strobe, 6-Cross-fade colors, 7-Cross-fade speed control, 8-??

    thanks in advance

    Approved the thread.
  • There is an outdated DDFCreator, but since this targets DMXC3.1, its not reccomended to use this anymore. DDFs can be easely created by just editing the file in an Text Editor (Notepad++ with XML extension makes things easier).

For such a simple fixture, you can also probably find a similar fixture on the DDFLibrary that will work.

The wiki has a lot of documentation on DDFs and even has snippets you can copy-paste into your DDF.

  • I also have some generic chinese lights, e.g. RGBW LED lights. Thankfully I can select a DMX mode on those devices that is 1: red, 2: green, 3: blue, 4: white. This is exactly what a Generic RGBW device in DMX Control is. So maybe you could select a fitting DMX Mode for the fixtures and don't have the need to create your own DDF file.

  • Hi!

An additional hint: You don't have to assign or use all of your channels (if the device does not need them!). DMXControl is so mighty, that in most cases you can leave the built in modes unused and "rebuild" the effects in our software.
So first try the comment of MWSysTech and have a look if you can turn your device to a mode with no special channels after Dimmer-RGBW-Strobe. Basically you just need RGB, even dimmer and strobe will be "simulated" by DMXControl automatically.
Second try is using a generic dimmer-RGB-ddf (4channels) and leave as many channels left unset "behind" your startadress before adding the next device. With 8 channels start with adress 10 and next device with 18 (or even 20, doesn't matter). The generic "4channel dimmer-RGB" will just use channel 1-4, nothing will switch on something on 5-8 and the next device at 18 will not affect the first one.

Give it a try, maybe you don't need special DDFs.
