Waveform not synced with audio in Audioplayer

We proudly present: The release of DMXControl 3.3.3!

On September 29, 2026, we held our release show for DMXControl 3.3.3. During our usual “hour-long” session, we showed you all the new features in this version and what it now has to offer.
Read all about it in the corresponding news article: We proudly present: The release of DMXControl 3.3.3!

  • I am having a problem with the waveform not synced to the audio in Audioplayer. The longer into the audio file it play, the more off sync it gets. Anybody else have this issue? Because of this I have to just listen to the audio instead of looking at the waveform.

See this video for an example.

I have tried mp3 and wav at different settings and it seems to do the same thing.

  • Hi!

The Youtube-link is not available if you come to youtube over a german provider because of some stupid regulations here in Germany (music-rights). So I have to guess: Yes, I know that problem.
When doing my last Audioplayer project it was hard to work on the end of the song because of that "off-sync". The interessting part is: if you work (play/pause) on parts it is different to playing the whole track from the beginning on.
When I remeber right, this is explained with some problems on the programming language DMXControl is based on. In the past it has not been possible for Stefan (the head programmer) to fix it. I will try to ask him again once more if there is a solution now or if it is totally impossible. If that is true, we can only hope that on the long expected version 3.0 (or at least a following version 3.1/3.2) the Audioplayer is ready to work. The 3.x is completely new from the programming language to the user interface and all the concepts.
Sorry that I can't give you a solution right now.

PS: Welcome to our forum. I had to read it twice to beleve that I heard your name before... :D Your displays are well known by some of the people here.

  • Hi!

Ok, thanks to a workaround I was now able to look at you video. BTW amazing how restrict those automated blocking-filters work just from that 47second-Video.

That is not the same thing I talked about. If I measured correct from your video, the gap between the sound and the visuals is around 500ms at the last cue. And this cue is just 33 seconds from the beginning!

So what I did is generating a testfile with beep-sounds on precise positions. First thing I discovered: It is much more complicated than expected to do this in mp3... ;)
First test, mono (by mistake) 128kBit/sec 44kHz: to my complete surprise, no lag at the end of 6 minutes. If you like to try: http://www.hoc-media.de/dmx/beeps2.mp3 (nearly 6MB, to much to upload here).
Second try when I found out of the mono-mistake: 24kBit/sec 11kHz (smaller ;)): At the end after 5:55min exactly 1 second delay. Not in hearable Audio but in execution of cues. http://www.hoc-media.de/dmx/beeps_stereo_s2.mp3 (900kB)
Third try, the mono-file in 24kBit 11kHz: Same behaviour like in stereo 14kBit. http://www.hoc-media.de/dmx/beeps2_s2.mp3

So I don't know what happens when you try to follow my experiment. I put cues on the marked positions 00:05:55,000 secondwise to 00:06:00,000 and watched and heard what happend. In the middle of the tracks there are also 6 beeps at 00:03:00,000 to 00:03:05,000 and every minute (1,2,4,5) a single beep.
Do not be surprised, no starting beep. It starts with 60 seconds of complete silence...

Anyone else here for tests? Seems that Mono 128kBit/sec 44kHz is the best match.

PS: When I zoom out completely and run the stereo-file from the beginning to the end, no delay can be observed. That matches on my first answer, the problem I already knew.

  • Thanks for the welcome and very glad I ran across DMXControl. You can do some amazing stuff with it once you understand how it works. For a while there I was completely lost but just had to take the time to understand it and now see the power behind it. Funny how people all across the world of heard of the Christmas display! I have had a few videos go viral and amazed how far it has spread.

I was using version 2.10 and thought that was the latest version until yesterday when I thought a newer version might be out there because people were talking about things that were not in the version I was using. I was pleased to find the 2.11 version on the German download page. It might be a good idea to place the 2.11 version on the English page. I was really excited that you can now control the volume with 2.11 which was something I was fighting with in 2.10

After loading up version 2.11 it actually fixed my waveform problem! That was with a small file and I will go ahead and download your files and give it test.

I have seen this problem before with other lighting programs and usually converting it a Wav file fixes it.

  • Hi,

yes, there's an issue with variable bitrates in mp3-files and DMXControl.

DMXControl cannot sync the Waveform and the Variable MP3-Bitrates.

You've to convert your files to fix-Bitrates like 128 kbit/s or 192 kbit/s or something else.

    Regards, Souko ^^
