  • Hi,

Pretty straightforward question, but has anyone used a controller like 512 to manually sync scenes with video? I'm doing a project where certain lights and colours need to turn on or off to correspond with different sections of video. I'm worried that manually programmed hardware might eventually become out of sync with the video over time. Software seems to be the most precise way. I've been looking at Sweetlight specifically.

    Thanks!

  • Hi and welcome in our forum,

last time, I needed such a synchronious video / video projector light show, I started both parts manually (a video on one pc and the light show in DMXControl 2 on the other pc). However, I know someone who managed to sync OBS with DMXControl 3 by using midi commands. There are some midi plugins for OBS to switch scenes and he configure DMXControl 3 to send a midi message to do so. In OBS he had two scenes, one default black scene and one with the video which immediately starts when the scene is active. With this, he got a pretty decent synchronization between the lightshow in DMXControl 3 and OBS. So this seems to be a good way to acheve your goal.

  • Thanks JP! I've been watching a lot of videos on OBS to understand how it works and will continue to figure out how to integrate it with DMXControl 3. Really appreciate your help as I would not have figured this out on my own. Also cool that these are free programs!

  • Hi,

you could use the OSC plugin to send a OSC message out and then use another software like Touchdesigner (free up to resolution of 1280 x 1280).

I just tried it and it works perfectly.

  • Hello! Yes, a 512 type controller can be used to manually assemble a scene with video. However, as you correctly pointed out, using hardware for targets can be less accurate and assumed to have timing errors. Therefore, using software such as Sweetlight may be more than incidental to detect the inclusion of light effects with video. Good luck on your next project!
