The sound sounds great, because DMXControl 3 can now play sounds! Isn't that fine? Get all infos about this feature in our second Did you knew? Special.

    2. Inserting Audio Cues

One of the many features of DMXControl 2 is the support of audio. On one hand there is the audio player to play light shows and the audio scenes, with which you can start individual sound effects or music, e. g. in different effects in the effects sequencer or on some positions in the textbook. DMXControl 3, on the other hand, remained silent for a long time because there were simply more important construction sites. With DMXControl 3.2 this changes a little bit now.

Audio Cues

With DMXControl 3.2 comes the support for audio cues, which are similar to the audio scenes in DMXControl 2. Now, you can start audio cues from the scene sequence of a cuelist. Admittedly, these audio functions are still quite rudimentary, since the audio cues can only be started, paused and stopped so far. But this is already sufficient for many situations. Today we show you how to use this new feature.

Add Audio Files

Before you can start inserting audio cues into a cuelist, you must first insert the audio files into the project.

To do this, navigate to the Files entry in the left tree of the Project Explorer. Now right-click on a free area in the right part of the Project Explorer and click on Import Files. Now a dialogue appears where you can add new files to the project. Here you can select your audio files. Currently Wave and MP3 files are supported. All music files are also saved now in the project archive. So you don't need to copy the files manually to the new computer.

Inserting Audio Cues

If the audio files are in the correct format, they now appear in the Audio Selector. This window can be reached in a cuelist via the dropdown menu of the Add Cue button. There the Audio Selector opens with a click on Special Cue => Audio.

In the Audio Selector, all supported audio files from the Files area of the Project Explorer are displayed in the left part.

If an audio file is selected on the left, the corresponding waveform appears on the right. In addition, the action to be inserted can be selected in the lower part of the window. You can start, stop and pause an audio file. With a click on OK the Special Cue is inserted and can now be used directly. So now all possibilities are open to play back sounds in theatre plays or even music in a light shows. For the moment, an external program must currently be used to display the waveform separately to determine the timestamp for a cue. How the finael result in DMXControl 3.2 looks like, you can see in the last screenshot of this Did you know? edition.
