  • Hi there,

I am programming a complex architectural installation with 3 universes
using ETC Mosaic controllers. Unfortunately the built-in controller is
only 2D. All fixtures are just simple RGB LEDs. I need some software
that shows those RGB fixtures in a simulated 3D space. No need for any
fancy beam reflections, etc. just simple circles in a 3D space
indicating the position of the RGB fixtures and their programmed color
    over time.

Does anybody know about a 3rd party software I could use in conjunction
with the ETC Mosaic Designer software or the ETC Mosaic Designer
controllers? Someone at ETC recommended "Capture" (see http://www.capturesweden.com). I haven't tried it yet but it is rather pricey...

Thanks for your help in advance!

  • Hi Erwin

Capture is a really powerful and good software. And yes it's expensive, but there's a free version for students.

You also can use Magic 3D easy view from Nicolaudie in combination with DMXControl to get some 3D simulation.

When used with DMXcontrol (both for free) you have some restrictions (can't import 3 models, no 2D blueprint view,..) but all in all it works and doesn't cost anything.

Here's a german manual for using it with DMXControl (english not ready yet, use google site translation):
    Magic 3D Easy View

To get your DMX / ArtNet Signal from your other software into DMXControl and so to die simulator, you have to use dmx-in in DMXcontrol and patch any adresses 1:1. but as i read you have 3 Universes. But DMXControl 2 only can hand 1 input universe. So you have to use DMXco trol 3, but i don't know if magic 3D ist working there!?

Hope i gave you some good advices.

  • Heya!
After a lot of searching and testing trial versions of
various software packages I bought the pro version of LumiDMX 3D. Works
great and is very affordable - see http://www.lumidmx.com.

Sirs Electronics, the American distributor they list, actually doesn't
sell their products anymore. I ordered the software incl. pro dongle
directly from Germany without any problems - see http://www.thomann.de

    Cheers,
    Erwin
