  • is there anyway to recive artnet from the same computer?

i'm using artnet output sucessfully for output, not without hassles but it kind of works.

i have an enttec usbdmx pro, and i'd really like to be able to use dmxcontrol.

now i'm stuck with freestyler, but dmxcontrol seems much more suited to my needs, since i do lights for theater, not rock bands (for which it seems freestyler is geared towards.)

i read in the forums that the artnet plugin is incapable of doing this, is their any way i can help to change it?

    any ideas?

    thanks

  • we're looking forward to get an plugin for your interface. until then you can use artnet on your localhost by using the ip 127.0.0.1 or the hostname "localhost" (without ")

  • As ArtNet uses the same UDP ports for sending and receiving but only one task can bind itself to a certain port, most programs will not work together on one machine.
The DMXControl ArtNet plugin has a kind of "fallback mode" where it continues to send data, even if the ArtNet port is already used by another program. So for your setup the order in which you start the programs is important: First start the receiving tool (which will bind itself to the ArtNet port, thus blocking it), then start DMXControl (which will tell you that the port is already in use and it can only send but not receive).

  • so it's actually artnet thats the problem here? would it be possible to bind to a diferent port? or do artnet nodes have to listen on a certain port?

i've got an idea, let me know if you think it'll work......

i could probably modify artnode to use a diferent udp port.
then set up port forwarding between the two.(not hard in linux, but we're on xp)

it would be like they were on diferent computers and problem solved....hopefully.

i'll let you know how i get on.

but keep us informed on the progress of the enttec usb-dmx pro output plugin. in the longer term i'd prefer to keep thinks simple.

    thanks.

  • Hi.
What is the setup for using enttec pro through artnet? I tried the ip, but cannot figure it out.

    Thanks

Edit: nevermind, I found Hippy's Pro Widget ToolKit, which artnet found automatically, despite an errormessage saying "port in use". Works like a charm!

  • i though i replied to this thread, but i dosent seem to have worked,

antway, i was going to suggest that you use hippys "artnode pro" program,

its pretty much the same as the pro toolkit but its more simple and a bit more configurable. and runs in a dos prompt.

at the moment i'm using it to output from dmxcontrol.

the protoolkit is good to have arround, i tried to update my firmware with the enttec soft and it (nearly)bricked my adapter,
then i ran hippys pro toolkit to try to reflash the firmware and it worked first time!

  • in the end i got artnet input to work too.

using artnode. i wrote a config file, binding 2.0.0.1 which was the address of the loopback network adapter

after a bit of confusion, and trying to use port forwarding, makinga modified version of artnode which used a diferent port, and scratching my head a lot. it turns out the answer is simple,

for input i just start dmxcontrol first then artnode later,
