Hello let me introduce myself

  • Hi there,

My name is Ron Uccellini and I work in the Engineering Industy, my background in in Electronics Design but I have also written some software in the past. My hobby is as a DJ, specialising in my own events with themed parties and big lightshows. This is where my interest in DMX Contol began. I was looking for some DMX control software to sequence DMX steps to music, DMX Control is the only free software available that can do this. There are other packages like light-o-rama and Venue Magic but these are costly and to be honest after trying out the demos, have some limitations.

I have started to translate the English DMX Contol WIKI, I don't speak German but to be honest don't see that as a problem, I have managed to figure out most of the software now so it's a matter of explaining the functions rather than translating words. I am quite used to 'technical writing' so I hope the documentation reads well.

If you have any comments on what I have done so far let me know, my goal is to work on a few of pages each week.

Thanks again to the software team for this great software. I hope the work I am doing on the manual will lead to more English speaking users trying the software.

    Regards
    Ron

  • Hi Ron,

on behalf of the whole DMXControl-Projects e.V. Team, we would like to welcome you.
I'm very grateful that you want to support us in different parts of documentation.
In addition, i think that an english documentation of our software will make the software more usefull for a larger group of foreign-language people.

So if you have any ideas or questions that could help not german speaking people using our platform, don't hesitate to ask and inform us.

  • Hi,
thank you for your help :).
I'm a student of aeronautics and space engineering and started to use DMXControl for school theatres and musicals some years ago. At that time, I was leader of the Technik AG (technics group) of our school, which is responsible for all the light and sound on school events. We needed an easy way to control a larger set of fixtures for a musical and I found DMXC as a good program to do it. Last year, I began to support DMXControl by writing some articles for the german manual, because I thought I have to give something back for the good job DMXControl did at all the shows we had in school. Since last november I'm a member of the registered association DMXControl e.V. and we (Uwe and myself) are responsible for all documentational stuff.

I think one of the fastest ways to get non German users to start using the program would be to offer an download which includes an English language demo. I am happy for you to use my pack and go for this purpose if you wish.

  • Do you think about an english demo video or just a project with predefined devices and scenes?
For the second case, i think you could provide a project in the forum, if you want.
In addition we could offer it as a download on our webpage.

    Hi Julien

When I first downloaded DMX Control and installed it, although the program was in English all of the cues, scenes and chasers were in German, I gave up the first time because I just could not understand anything. I think if there was an actual download of the program with English cues, scenes and chasers people would not be as confused as I was. With software you normally only get one chance to 'hook' a user and I think this would be the best way.

This would also be easy to do and not take any extra work :-)
