We proudly present: DMXControl 3.3.0 - the fith release candidate!

Sometimes the devil is in the detail - and that's why the fifth release candidate follows on so quickly from the fourth release candidate today. The problem: those of you who are or have been using Art-Net a lot could not start RC4. The kernel ran in an endless loop at start-up and was no longer accessible for the GUI and the Umbra. If you (still) wanted to set up and activate Art-Net while the system was running, this was quickly the end. For example, the Stage View no longer responded as usual after a few actions.

After the first reports of this malfunction came up, it took quite some time until the error was localized. This narrowing down involved numerous messages in the forum. Starting from the initial message that the kernel possibly had a problem with the gobo correlation, the problem was ultimately buried in two places. Firstly, there was a fundamental error in the output module for Art-Net. However, this only came into play after Art-Net was to be used accordingly and was active for this purpose. On the other hand, a problem when starting a plugin or interface could block the main process of the kernel. This ultimately led to the behaviour observed and described in the German thread DMXC 3.3.0 RC4: GUI does not connect / kernel gets stuck in gobo correlation. Debugging was also made even more difficult, as in this case the kernel did not provide any error messages, which usually provide a very clear indication of where to look in the code. So other tricks had to be used. In the end, both were something that could be fixed.

The overview

The following errors have been fixed in this version:

An addendum

The following bugs have already been fixed in RC4, but this was lost in the preparation of the news for RC4:

What should you look out for?

In our news about the release of DMXControl 3.3.0 RC1, we already gave you a few important tips along the way. These also apply with the release of this new version.

Final words

Now that RC4 was definitely a version that would not have received the status of a final release due to the problem with the Art-Net output, things are looking better again with RC5. With new versions, we are taking another step towards the final release. We hope you continue to enjoy working with DMXControl 3.3.0.
