Last weekend, we came together virtually for the first time in a long time - and with two teams at the same time. At the beginning of the year, the marketing team had the idea of working on various marketing team topics at a marketing convention (MaCon for short). The date had therefore been on the calendar for a long time. It was to be the aforementioned November 9 and 10. After last year's very special Developer Convention (DevCon for short) on Helgoland, our developers decided to hold this year's DevCon online. As luck would have it, the preferred date fell on the same weekend as the MaCon - with the difference that the DevCon was traditionally scheduled over four days and therefore started on Friday and only ended on Monday. So, we are now working in two teams on a wide variety of DMXControl-related topics.
In concrete terms, this meant that, on the one hand, a lot of new code was generated, or existing code was rebuilt. On the other hand, there were also numerous discussions on various concepts on the agenda. One of these revolved around working with multiple GUIs or with regard to automatic switching to the backup system. There are still various framework conditions to consider here, such as the question “What happens if a certain window is open, and the same window is to be opened on a second GUI? How should the whole thing behave?”. The results of this intensive and technical discussion, among other things, now need to be implemented in code. The development team also spent time on the bug tracker and reviewed numerous tickets.
On Saturday and Sunday, the marketing team was particularly busy with the wiki. A few days earlier, the basic system had received an extensive update to the latest version. In this context, a new theme was also introduced. As a result, numerous templates had to be checked and adapted in terms of design. The same applied to the articles. The work was completed according to the Pareto principle - in other words, we activated the new theme as the default theme on Sunday after a brief presentation in the weekly project meeting. Within two days, we have reached a stage where most articles are displayed without any problems. In the coming weeks and possibly months, the aforementioned fine-tuning will now gradually take place in various places. Otherwise, the marketing team removed items from the area of general public relations work from the agenda with the note “completed / done”.
All in all, it was a very productive and productive online association meeting (Online Community Convention or On-Cl-Con).
